Creative Marketing Strategies for Apps

As you may already imagine, the success of an application depends on several factors, and luck is not one of them. Business model, the technology used, launch and dissemination strategies count. All of these are examples of factors that contribute to the success of an app.

As of the first quarter of 2020, there were more than 2.5 million apps on the Google Play which is the app store with the most significant number of available apps. Apple’s App Store was the second-largest app store with having more than 1.8 million available apps for iOS. Without a good marketing strategy, it is doubtful that a product will become successful, and with applications, it is no different.

In this article, we will talk about creative marketing strategies for mobile apps.

We all know that having a mobile and online presence is essential for the current and future success of any business since the smartphone and mobile devices are the fastest-growing communication channels.

ASO stands for App Store Optimization. It is equivalent to SEO, but for app stores (App Store, Google Play). On the internet, people use search engines to find information on a specific subject. On mobile devices, people mainly use app stores to find an app with the function they want.

Your app needs to be found in stores. App Store Optimization is the best way for you to increase downloads and acquire as many people as possible for your app, and this in an organic and scalable way. That is why knowing ASO is so important. It is not enough to launch your app and put it in stores. They need to be found more easily.

Most basic tips so that you can see how easy it is to make your app easy to find:

  • Before deciding on the name of your app, do in-store searches to review apps with similar names;
  • Define a different logo from these competitors to let the user know that that logo is yours;
  • Structure your keywords well when describing your app in the publishing process (use the Google Trends and Keyword Planner Tool)
  • Get 500 downloads quickly and always respond to your app’s comments and ratings

Viral Marketing

But what makes a marketing campaign really viral? How is a message able to be shared so many times that it reaches millions of people? Why do some actions gain this viral power and others do not?

There is no magic formula, but the fact is that some elements are commonly associated with the most famous examples of viral marketing in the world. In general, experts believe that a viral campaign:

  • emotional
  • funny
  • makes people identify with the topic
  • explores common motivations and behaviours

Partnerships and recommendations

This is one of the most efficient and scalable ways to generate downloads for your app, but although simple, it requires intense work or a fantastic network of contacts.

It would help if you first analyzed who would be the most relevant influencers in your market. Let’s say it’s cooking and cooking. Can you imagine MasterChef judges and chefs promoting your app?

Of course, you will have to be very creative and also offer something in return to have these recommendations. Okay, I know I exaggerated thinking about Gordon Ramsay. But there are hundreds of other influencers.

Make a list and go after a partnership or even if they know your app. One post on Twitter can generate more than 10,000 downloads.

Get and cultivate your users by email marketing

Have a registration of your users in your app and get their email. Then you can create an email marketing strategy, for free, even. We have also produced a video about how you can do your first email marketing campaign. But why?

Why do you need to give your users an experience that does not depend on the app so that you will captivate them more and the best, he can forward to his contact network what can be a free advertisement of your app and your idea?

Also, it is a way of cultivating the relationship, which users can respond to and even point out improvements, suggestions and even complaints!

Send emails to talk about news about the app, content, opportunity, holidays or any communication that will generate value for the user. Just don’t overdo it, nobody likes to see your box full of emails from the same company.

There are countless ways for you to get downloads, but I chose to present 3 ways that I know will have an effect and that don't need a big investment, at least in the beginning.
