5 Types of Apps to Use for Entertainment

There's an app for everything nowadays. You can have almost any problem or question answered with an app.

One area that has an almost unlimited supply of apps is entertainment, whether it be to entertain yourself on a long plane ride or to spice up a party you're having at your home. You can do anything from organizing a group game via a gaming app or even playing DJ by keeping everyone's favorite music blasting all night long.

Here, we've rounded up the top types of apps that you can use for entertainment.

TV and Movies

Of course, TV and movies are a great source of entertainment. We've all downloaded a few episodes of our favorite show or a film before a flight or a long car ride.

But you can also get creative. If you want to throw a movie party or have a few of your friends come over to watch a new episode of a show you all enjoy, television and movie streaming apps let you do so. Buying a small projector for your smartphone will allow you and your friends to select whatever TV or movie app you would like and have a full movie theater experience.

There are many apps that let you access movies and tv shows, from YouTube to Netflix, Hulu, AppleTV, Amazon Prime, HBO Go, and more. Each streaming service has a unique selection, giving you nearly unlimited options.

Music

Music is another favorite in terms of entertainment. You can create a playlist beforehand or see what the app recommends.

Whether you're having a solo dance party or hosting friends for a long night of fun karaoke, you need music. You also want speakers so that you can hear the music.

If you have old-school speakers because, let's admit, the sound is crisper, the bass more resonant, and the tonal quality better, you can still play music through your apps. All you need is a wireless speaker conversation kit to convert a set of speakers that you already have.

The top apps for music include Spotify, YouTube, and iTunes.

Gameplay

There are also numerous game apps designed for solo gamers or group players. You can choose anything from trivia to charades, each one bound to be a crowd-pleaser.

If you and your friends aren't able to get together all in the same place at the same time, there are almost infinite options for you to play group games via an app on your smartphone.

You can opt for classic favorites like Uno, Yahtzee, Scrabble, Mario Kart, pool, and even poker. You could also try apps like House Party, which combine things like group trivia with video chat so you can get the full game party experience.

Podcasts

Podcasts can be purely educational, but they are also pretty entertaining. If you and your friends don't want to listen to music all night, there are many app options for downloading podcasts from your favorite comedians or celebrities.

Basically, if it exists, there is a podcast for it. This option is a great way to switch things up with your friends, especially if going to a live comedy show isn't an option.

Final Thoughts

Overall, there is almost an endless list of apps you can choose from to bring some extra entertainment to your parties or on your next road trip. There are classics like YouTube, Netflix, or Uno, but there are also new apps coming out all the time that you and your friends can check out. Either way, you'll be able to find the perfect app for the occasion.
